Dr. Fadel Nammour, a gastroenterologist at Essentia Health Fargo, explains a colonoscopy procedure in this educational video. Kristi, a gastroenterology nurse, describes the process of preparing for the exam.  A colonoscopy, Dr. Nammour says, is considered the preferred diagnostic screening for colorectal cancer – the third leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States.

“Colorectal cancer usually begins with a small polyp in the colon,” he said. “If we remove it, there is a 90 percent chance of preventing the disease.”
